this explains so much.
Below is a picture of a Mighty Mugg figure I saw on Agent M’s blog.
Aside from the fact that Agent M might have the coolest job in the world, and therefore everything he mentions takes on a nerdy-Bondsian cool-factor, this dude pictured looks like something I’d want to have on my desk.
Oh wait. I do have him on my desk
(just not the same one)
I remember when I bought this dude, Anie looked at me very puzzled, and asked why I was buying it. The simple fact was I wanted to own a Wolverine figure, and the price of $10 was no deterrence.
Then I realized that what she was talking about was really, “why would you buy a random thing like that to put on your desk at work”.
I still haven’t worked out a good answer, but everyone who’s seen it seems to like it, too.
It does puzzle me why, for a pseudo-minimalist, I like to have random thing around. Perhaps my dark-side is a secret horder.
Nah, that can’t be it.
Maybe it’s because I couldn’t get this stuff when I was a kid, so now I buy it for myself?
That’s probably closer to home, but in truth, I had all the ninja turtles I wanted as a kid, just far less than the kids down the block.
Maybe it’s something totemic, like the Wolverine on my desk is a modern version of the idols we learned about in Art History class. Instead of fertility, I’m seeking to channel virility and latent aggression?
How about you? Do you have anything on your desk (at home or at work) that really doesn’t belong there but you always want to keep it around?

Thanks to @Twyst for sharing.
I’ve been playing around with layout/visual theme of my blog lately, and today while checking everything out, I analyzed my Tag Cloud, and wasn’t exactly happy with a few things I saw there.
I’m pretty happy about the quantity of zombie references. You really never can be prepared enough.
I understand that baseball has fallen off quite a bit. It’s just the time of year, and the fact that I’ve been trying to avoid making angry posts about the recent Yankee’s roster changes (Melky was awesome and sealed my first Yankee Stadium memory, even if Granderson may play better defense. Nick Johnson FTL!!!), and/or Mark McGwire’s pansy pseudo-admission (c’mon you dick, you ruined a great record and you’re still lying about why you cheated).
The Not Good:
There seems to be too few references to Wolverine and Robots lately. I mean, if I stray from those topics, am I going to lose my core reader(ship)?
I’ll keep mulling this over while I come up with an action plan.
(Pfft. I don’t follow “action plans”, I just “DO” or forget about it. We’ll see what happens)
GF: “so how many blogs am I in?”
me: “ha ha. that’s funny. There is a blog about you asking that”
GF: “what do you mean?”
me: (proceed to discuss this)
me: “then there’s a feature on originalname.wordpress.com that shows all the tags I’ve used and the more often they appear, the bigger they are…”
GF: “so is mine the biggest?”
me: “ha ha, no. c’mon, you gotta compete with Wolverine and Zombies and stuff like that…”
GF: “is mine one of the biggest…?”
GF: “is it bigger than Wolverine?”
me: “ughh…yeah” (at the time of this conversation, Wolverine was winning)
GF: “it sounds like you’ve got your priorities out of whack here”
GF: “and don’t blog about this conversation either…”
Since I already own (and proudly display at work) the Mighty Muggs Wolverine in the old-school yellow get-up, I’m going to dub this new one the Broke-Backy Wolverine and take a pass. Seriously, the hat is removable, but when would anyone really be able to get close enough to take Wolverine’s hat off?
(and the top one has a sword? department of redundancy department in effect)
